The domestic policy of Narendra Modi refers to the domestic policy initiatives of the current Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and his government who assumed office on 26 May 2014. ==Role of government== Narendra Modi's position on the role of government is often summarized by his slogan ''"minimum government, maximum governance"''. Speaking at The Economic Time Global Business Summit 2015, Modi elaborated saying, According to Modi, there are five components where the State should be involved. The first is public goods such as defence, police, and judiciary. The second is externalities which hurt others, such as pollution, which would require regulatory system. The third is market power, to place controls on monopolies. The fourth is information gaps, where government would be required to carry out tasks such as ensuring that medicines are genuine. The fifth is a well designed welfare and subsidy mechanism to protect the underprivileged from deprivation, specially with respect to education and healthcare.〔
